Middlebury has a rich, 217-year history, a dynamic present, and an ambitious focus on the future. As we create our strategic directions, we do so with deliberate consideration and examination of our values, our priorities, and our strengths as an institution.
Forming the Strategic Plan
In 2016, under the leadership of President Laurie L. Patton, Middlebury embarked upon Envisioning Middlebury, a process that has led to the creation of a new strategic framework for the institution.
This process brought together faculty, staff, students, and alumni across our schools, programs, and campuses to engage in conversations, to seek ideas, and to stretch our imaginations of what a future Middlebury might look like. These conversations embraced Middlebury’s current complexity and our reach, which today extends far beyond the educational and geographic boundaries our founders could have imagined.
All the while, we built upon the unique character and values that guide us: excellence in teaching and research, thinking and acting globally, the health of our planet, the importance of innovation and engagement with the world, and building diverse and inclusive communities.
